OUR STORY
Chattanooga Skin and Cancer Clinic was founded in 1973 by Dr. Samuel L. Banks with a simple mission: provide the Tennessee Valley with dermatology care of the highest caliber, delivered with the warmth of a true neighborhood practice.
More than five decades later, that mission has not changed. We have grown from a single Chattanooga office into a three-location practice serving Chattanooga, Cleveland, and Kimball, but we are still locally and physician-owned. Every decision we make starts with the patient sitting across from us.
Today, our board-certified dermatologists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants treat more than 250 patients each day across our three offices. We treat newborns and grandparents, weekend gardeners and outdoor athletes, families who have come to us for generations and patients walking through our doors for the first time.
What ties them all together is our commitment to lasting patient-physician relationships. We believe great dermatology care is built on trust, accuracy, and consistency. That is what we work to deliver every day.
Our Values
What We Stand For
Accuracy
From skin checks to surgical margins, getting it right is everything in dermatology. We take the time to look closely, ask the right questions, and make the right call.
Accessibility
Three locations. Same-week appointments for urgent concerns. Patient-friendly hours. Care should be convenient, not a hurdle.
Long-Term Relationships
Many of our patients have been with us for 20 years or more. We are not interested in one-time visits. We are building a lifetime of skin health, one patient at a time.

Most adults benefit from a yearly full-body skin exam. If you have a personal or family history of skin cancer, fair skin, significant sun exposure, or many moles, your dermatologist may recommend more frequent visits.
Mohs micrographic surgery removes skin cancer layer by layer, with each layer examined under a microscope before the next is taken. This approach offers the highest cure rate available, typically above 99 percent for primary basal and squamous cell carcinomas. Standard excision removes the cancer in a single piece with a planned margin, which is appropriate for many skin cancers.
